The Tax Department's arm of the F.D.C. Group commenced business as F.D.C. Tax Department Ltd. on 5 September 1989. Since that date the expertise of the Department has grown under all tax headings and we have a management and support staff structure that has specialised in all areas.

Since 1989, we have been mandated by the F.D.C. Group to consider ways, means and structures of effecting tax savings for our clients. As a result we have been successful in many areas and now wish to use the knowledge and experience gained by us in assisting you to minimise tax.

The Tax Department's Headquarters are in the F.D.C. H.Q. Office in Cork but we service all F.D.C. Offices throughout the country.

Pat Lane, F.M.A.A.T., A.I.T.I., A.I.P.A.

Pat Lane has been Manager of F.D.C. Tax Department Ltd. since its establishment in 1989. He is an Associate of the Institute of Taxation and also an Associate of the Institute of Incorporated Public Accountants. Pat is well known as a writer on taxation topics for public journals.

Donncha Collins, B.C.L., A.I.T.I.

Donncha Collins is a Taxation Consultant with F.D.C. Tax Department Ltd. He is an Associate of the Institute of Taxation, has a Law Degree from University College Cork and has lectured extensively on taxation throughout the country. Donncha is an employee of F.D.C. Tax Planning Department Ltd since 1990.

Gerald Owens, F.C.A., A.I.T.I.

Gerald Owens is a Taxation Consultant with F.D.C. Tax Department Ltd. Gerald is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. He has spoken on Taxation topics at seminars and is a regular contributor of articles to various publications. Gerald is an employee of F.D.C. Tax Planning Department Ltd. since 1993.

Padraig Shanahan, B.BS, A.I.T.I.

Padraig Shanahan is a Taxation Consultant. He is a member of the Institute of Taxation and also has a BBS Degree from University College Limerick.

John Butler, B.Comm.

John Butler is a Taxation Consultant. He is a member of the Institute of Taxation and also has a Commerce Degree from University College Cork.

Mary Clare O'Grady, B.C.L., LL.B.

Mary Clare is a Taxation Consultant. She is a member of the Institute of Taxation and also has a Law Degree from University College Cork.

Declan Buckley, B.BS Acc

Declan Buckley is a junior Taxation Consultant with FDC Tax Department Ltd. He has a Bachelor of Business in Accounting Degree from Cork Institute of Technology.

Caroline Walsh, B.BS Acc, BA Acc.

Caroline is a Taxation Consultant. She is a member of the institute of Taxation and also has an Accounting Degree from IT Carlow.

Michael Fitzgerald, B.Sc, M.Sc

Michael Fitzgerald is a junior taxation Consultant with F.D.C. Tax Department Ltd. Michael has a Degree in Science from University College cork and a Masters in Science from the University of Limerick. Michael is now studying for the AITI examinations.

Robert Plaice, BCLG, LLME.

Robert Plaice achieved his degree in Law and German (BCLG) in 2004 followed by his Masters in Electronic & Commercial Law (LLME) in 2005. He has been working in FDC since March 2006 and is now studying for the AITI examinations.

Adrian Godwin, B.BS, A.I.T.I, A.C.C.A

Adrian Godwin is a business graduate of the University of Limerick and is both a member of the Irish Taxation Institute and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Adrian has experience in both business and personal taxation and has worked significantly in the area of estate planning and business transfers. Adrian heads up the midlands office with specific regard to the Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Cahir and Cashel areas.

Eva Bradley B.BS

Eva studied Finance in University College Cork and graduated in 2002. She is currently studying for her final exams with the Institute of Taxation and hope's to qualify in November.

Cormac O'Neill, A.C.M.A, BL.

FDC Group would like to announce the appointment of Mr Cormac O'Neill as Legal Adviser. Cormac is a member of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and is a qualified Barrister.

BUDGET 2007 KEY POINTS

  • Reduction in the top rate of income tax to 41%

     

  • Increase in personal tax credits, bands and exemption limits.

     

  • The tax relief at source system has been extended - now includes medical expenses and trade union subscriptions.

     

  • A doubling in the maxium amount of mortgage interest relief that can be claimed by "first time buyers".

     

  • New measures aimed at reducing the administrative burden for small businesses in the areas of corpporation tax and VAT.

     

  • The extension of the BES and Seed Capital Scheme("SCS") by 7 years and a sunstantial increase in the investment thresholds. A company can now raise €2m in BES funding (previously only €1m) and an individual can now claim tax relief of up to €150,000 and €100,000 per annum under the BES and SCS respectively.

     

  • The threshold for CGT retirement relief has increased from €500,000 to €750,000.

     

  • Reduction in the PRSI and health Levy burden for low earners but an increase in the health levy by 0.5% to 2.5% for high earners.
